How do I dose animals before they are assigned to groups?

Using treatments for disease induction and pre-treatment dosing.

Updated over a week ago

In the treatment groups setup of your study you must configuring your treatment groups to assign which groups of animals can receive particular treatments. The animals must be assigned to group and have the treatment selected in the workflow setup - Dosing section to be able to administer this treatment to the animal.

So what do you do if you need to treat the animals before they are assigned to their treatment groups to accurately record a disease induction event?

NOTE: Disease induction information can be added as metadata on a study or individual groups in the situation that the exact user, time and date does not need to be recorded during the course of the study.

To use treatments to record disease induction events such as cell inoculation follow the following steps:

  1. Create an additional group in Treatment groups with a generic name and assign your treatment to this group

  2. Assign up to 100 animals to this group (If your study has more than 100 animals requiring the same treatment, spit this into two groups with the same treatment assigned)

  3. In the configuration tab select the treatment that needs to be applied to all animals.

  4. In the animals table use "add to group (manual)" to add all animals to this group.

  5. Open workflow and select the appropriate treatment in the dosing section

  6. In workflow administer the dose on each animal along with any comments, if applicable.

NOTE: To view measurements recorded after this event, set the tracking date to this date.

  7. When you are ready to randomize animals into their treatment groups, use bulk action to "remove from group"

  8. Go to the treatment groups page and click edit to open the groups table.

  9. Select this additional group(s) and remove by using Right click "remove row" this will delete this group from your study but retain the historical dose that was maintained.

  10. Click "Save". Now you are ready to assign your animals to treatment groups.
