Edit samples in bulk

Edit and delete many study samples at a time.

Managing samples effectively is crucial for the in vivo workflow. Studies allows you streamline the process and enhance sample management with bulk sample edit and delete. By following these steps, you'll be able to maintain accurate and organized sample records, ensuring the success of your in vivo studies.

Locating the Sample to Edit

  1. Navigate to the "Samples" section in your study. This contains a table displaying your samples in rows with all related details in columns. This table provides an overview of sample information, such as sample IDs, animal name, sample details, and associated metadata. Use the show menu to reveal additional columns

  2. You can Utilize filters to find samples of the same type to edit in bulk. You can search by sample ID, and filter by metadata to refine the list.

  3. Once you have identified the sample select the checkbox next to the sample to enable the bulk actions menu with the option to "Edit sample details".

Editing Sample Information

  1. After selecting the sample, click " edit sample details from the bulk actions menu.

  2. A new window will appear with a table, allowing you to modify the sample's information.

  3. Update the necessary fields such as sample name, details (such as volume or weight), date and time of collection, Comments, or any other relevant metadata fields. Note: sample type cannot be changed.

  4. To add new metadata fields click "add metadata" to reveal new columns in the table.

  5. Review your changes and ensure accuracy.

  6. Click the "Save" button to save the changes.

  7. The samples table will automatically update to reflect the modified sample information.

Note: If you have linked your study to a folder in the Benchling registry, These updates will be reflected on registered samples after a short delay.

Deleting Samples

  1. To delete a sample, locate the samples in the study samples table using the same process described in Step 1.

  2. Once you have selected the samples, open the bulk actions menu and click "delete".

  3. A confirmation prompt will appear, asking you to confirm the deletion.

  4. If you are sure about the deletion, click "Delete Samples" to remove the samples from the system.

  5. The samples table will update automatically, removing the deleted samples from the table.

Note: If you have linked your study to a folder in the Benchling registry, The corresponding registered samples will be archived automatically.


Editing samples Individually

Alternatively, if you want to update a single sample, you can use the menu on the sample in workflow and in the animal profile.
