After randomization, animals can be automatically recaged according to their new grouping. This process involves creating new cages and assigning animals to these based on group and cage capacity. But what if you have cages names and metadata included in your cage labels that you want to reuse, essentially keeping the original cages? Here are some steps that you can use to help guide you through this process in Studies?
NOTE: If you want to include animals that were not randomized into groups in this recaging, create another group called "unassigned" and manually add the remaining animals into this groups
Complete recaging by selecting the animals that are in groups and using bulk action> recage in the animals table menu.
Ensure that you have assigned unique IDs or New IDs to be able to identify the animals in their new cages.
In the cages section you will see that the animals have been moved into new cages and the original cages are empty.
GO to COLONY, Filter the colony cages table by study to locate and select these cages
Click "edit cage details" in the bulk actions menu
Using keyboard shortcuts, Copy (control+C) and Paste (control+V) the cage information into from the original cages to the new cages
Click "save"
Return to the cages view and Filter by population is "empty"
Use Delete in the bulk actions menu to delete original cages
The Cages will be removed from the study retaining all of the original cage metadata.
